ELKHART — Priscilla S. "Pat" Mapes, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 27, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Pat was born July 22, 1946, in Goshen to the late Arthur and Treva (Kern) Vincent.
On Dec. 28, 1963, she married Charles E. Mapes in Elkhart.
Surviving are her husband of almost 51 years, Charles of Elkhart; son Bryan Mapes of Elkhart; daughter Christy Caffrey of Goshen; five grandchildren, Sashia, McKinley, Daylon, Maxson and Lydia; a great-granddaughter, Ayrabella; and two nephews she helped raise, Roy (Michele) Barnett of Elkhart and Henry (Diane) Barnett of Phoenix.
A son, Aaron Mapes, sisters Vyetta Ulery and Doris Barnett and a brother, Vernon Vincent, preceded Pat in death.
Pat was a loving wife, Nana and friend. She retired from Hubbard Hill where she worked in housekeeping for many years. She formerly worked as a real estate agent. She was an avid bingo player and loved to visit casinos in our area. Pat was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends may also call for an hour prior to the 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, funeral service celebrating her life at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 405 W. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart. The Rev. Tom DeFries will officiate. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow the service, with burial at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
