GOSHEN - Phyllis J. Wise Shaum, 92, of Goshen, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at 8:20 am at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen.
She was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Noble County to the late Roy and Fern (Hostetler) Emmitt. She later married the Rev. Carlyle S. Wise, who passed away in 2000. She then married the Rev. Levon A. Shaum, who passed away in 2008. She is also preceded in death by her daughter Sue Wogoman, a grandson Eddie Personette, and her sisters Joan Anderson and Bonnie Kulp.
Surviving are her daughters Marlyn K. Weaver of Elkhart and Charlene J. Personette of Mishawaka; brothers Charles Emmitt of Lady Lake, FL and Tim Emmitt of Naperville, IL; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Phyllis' life will be celebrated at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, with a visitation to be held there from 2-4 pm on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015. The funeral service will follow on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm, with visitation starting one hour prior. The Rev. Harold Knight of the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church will officiate and burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery in Goshen.
Phyllis was a devout "Preacher's wife" nearly all her life, and she enjoyed doing volunteer work at Greencroft. In her younger years, she worked at Strauss Bakery, as well as helping run and oversee many churches in the region. She was currently a member of the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church in Goshen.
