Phyllis JoAnn Schweinzger, 84, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at her residence. She was born on November 3, 1936 in Chicago, IL to the late Hugo and Myrtle (Engh) Petersen.
Phyllis is survived by her children, William and Kelley Schweinzger; grandchildren, Austin (Amanda) Rubino, Alexis Schweinzger, and Sam Schweinzger; great grandchild, Hudson Rubino; stepchildren, Eric (Jane) Schweinzger, Sara (Daryll) Atkinson, and Lynn Schweinzger; step grandchildren, Ryan (Meaghan) Schweinzger, Jennifer Schweinzger, Jeffrey Atkinson, Melissa Arconti, and Amanda Atkinson; and twelve step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack L. "Jake" Schweinzger, and brother, William Petersen.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 4-6 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. A private family service will take place following visitation with Pastor Bryan Wisdom of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. All guests are kindly asked to respect the family's wishes, follow proper social distancing procedures, and wear a face mask. Cremation will follow services with a burial in Highland Cemetery in South Bend at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County, 23971 U.S. Highway 33, Elkhart, IN 46517.
Phyllis worked at Gustafson Lighting in quality control for 10 years and retired in 1998 from Key Bank after working there for 20 years. She married Jack L. Schweinzger on May 24, 1969 in South Bend and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
