ELKHART — Phyllis "Gwen" Kile, 82, of Elkhart, formerly of Silver Hill, Ala., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness
She was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., to Albert S. and Clara (Grenfell) Short. On Aug. 27, 1949, she married her husband of 62 years, Philip D. Kile Sr., and he survives. Other survivors include two sons, Phil (Patricia) Kile Jr. of Elkhart and Steve (Dixie) Kile of Edwardsburg, Mich.; two daughters, Cheryl (Carmelo) Anaya of Crestview, Fla., and Denise (Jack) Noonan of Chipley, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her brother, Sid; her sister, Irene; and two grandchildren.
In addition to being a loving homemaker for her family, she was employed with the Florida Power and Light Company for several years prior to her retirement in 1994.
Gwen enjoyed knitting, playing the piano, singing in the choir, vacationing with her husband and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Dale Brock, retired U.S. Navy chaplain, will officiate.
