Phillip "Phil" Amiss, 71, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at his residence in Elkhart. He was born in Ohio on August 31, 1948 to the late Harold Amiss and Henrietta (Rivers) Heverling.

Phil is survived by his loving wife, Susan A. (Zollinger) Amiss; brother, Harold "Jack" (Judy) Amiss; several nieces; and a host of loving extended family and friends who survive him as well. He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Annetta Amiss.

Phil served proudly in the United States Army in Vietnam as a helicopter door gunner, in which he was a purple heart recipient for being wounded in battle. He worked as a welder in both Elkhart and Texas for many years. Phil married the love of his life, Susan, in 1992 and they shared 27 wonderful years of marriage beside one another. When he was in Texas, he loved to go horseback riding and enjoyed the feeling of freedom when he rode.

In accordance with his family's wishes, cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Phil will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
