Mr. Wait, 87, of 24804 C.R. 6, Elkhart, died at 11:27 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 2, 2006), at home.
He was born May 19, 1919, in Chickasaw County, Iowa, to Osgood and Maude (Haviland) Wait. In 1941, he married Myrtle Hauser in Kahoka, Mo.
She survives along with two daughters, Nona J. (Rick) Hollar of Bristol, and Joyce A. (Jim) Miller of Elkhart; one son, Dennis E. (Linda) Wait of Middlebury; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald P. Wait; four brothers, Dale, Howard, Mark and Irving Wait; and two sisters, Martha Hurlbut and Madeline Miller.
Mr. Wait was a press operator at Adlake Inc. of Elkhart until the mid 1970s, when he retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished dancer. He also enjoyed ice skating, word-search puzzles, country music, old westerns, the "Little House on the Prairie" TV series and practical jokes. He was a past member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge 599. He liked to feed the birds and squirrels that visited his backyard.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is handling local arrangements. Other arrangements are being handled by Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home, 319 Main St., Nashua, Iowa 56058.
