Obituary

Paul "Sarge" Van De Mark, 79, formerly of Elkhart, departed this life on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at his home in Barbourville, KY.

Paul was born in Elkhart, IN on November 12, 1943 to the late, John Van De Mark and Virginia (Height) Christie. He was raised by his stepfather, Arthur Christie, whom also passed.

Paul married the love of his life, Wanda E. (Hetzler) Van De Mark on September 2 , 1972 in Elkhart. She passed away on January 23, 2017.

Paul is preceded in death by his grandparents, Momo and Popo, John Mars Van De Mark and Edith Van De Mark; brother, John; sister, Gloria; great granddaughter, Scarlet and many pets.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Tony) Workman of Barbourville, KY and son, Arthur (Lisa) Van De Mark of Corbin, KY; grandchildren, Amanda, Dustin (Brittney) Stokes, Teyana, Devin, Collin (Kayla) Van De Mark, Cody (Casey) Van De Mark and Crystal Sparks Miller; great grandchildren, Justin, J.T., Jayden, Willow, Oakley, Jaylynn and Lura; brothers and sisters, Jeff, Gail, Leslie, Linda, John Jr., and Charles and his dog, Zoey.

Paul lived in Elkhart for most of his life and graduated from Elkhart High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S Army for 10 years as well as the National Guard for 25 years. Paul  was an electrical supervisor within the RV industry including Sport Coach and Monaco as well a crane operator at Elkhart Foundry. He was a member of the VFW Post 88 in Elkhart.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman whom enjoyed fishing, camping and mushroom hunting. He looked forward to travelling across the country in his R.V. and camping at Muskaline Lake in Warsaw, IN.

Paul was a talented artist especially in drawing and painting as well as assembling miniature military models.

Paul was patriotic and he loved his Country and God. He was a hard worker, an animal lover and most of all a family man.

He will be remembered as a strong-willed man, always thinking of others before himself and a sarcastic sense of humor.

A Funeral Service with military honors for Paul will be at 12:00pm noon, Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN with Pastor Jeremy Sarber officiating. The Indiana Patriot Guard and Elkhart Honor Guard will be rendering military honors.

Visitation for Paul's family and friends will be 2 hours prior to the start of the service from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561.
