Obituary
ELKHART — Paul R. "Rootie" Reed, 73, of Elkhart, passed away in his home with his family at his side at 2:02 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, following an extended illness.
He was born in Jenkins, Ky., on April 4, 1941, to the late Dewey and Stella (Whitaker) Reed.
On May 27, 1959, he married Jo Anne Barber in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also surviving is his daughter, Paula (Larry) Sanders of Elkhart; sister Betty Vanover of Louisville, Ky.; brother Jimmy (Emma) Reed of Elkhart; grandchildren Justin Potter, Loni Lane, Eryn Sanders and Larry Sanders Jr.; and great-grandchildren Elliott Sanders, Ethan and Chase Potter, Grayson Sigman and Carly Barker.
Preceding him in death is his brother, Art Reed; his daughter, Karyn Lace; and a great-granddaughter.
Rootie worked in the local RV business for over 30 years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish, hunt, mushroom hunt, and work in his garden. He was also a classic car and Corvette enthusiast and enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He spent his free time with his beloved family and grandchildren.
No immediate services have been planned. In accordance with his wishes, Rootie is to be cremated. Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
