He was born Feb. 14, 1963, in Quebec, Canada, to David E. and Elizabeth (Courtade) Basket.

Mr. Basket is survived by his parents of Bristol; his adopted son, Kris Morgan of Cassopolis, Mich.; one sister, Marie (Philip) Neuenschwander of Elkhart; two nieces, Andrea (E.J.) McFarland of Elkhart and Beth Neuenschwander of Fort Wayne; and one nephew, Erich Neuenschwander of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Johanna Courtade and Fred and Ann Basket.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (April 2, 2008) at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Thursday (April 3, 2008) Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol. The Rev. Bob VanKempen of St. Mary's will officiate. Cremation will follow the service with burial at a later date in St. Vincent Cemetery, Elkhart. A rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Paul worked as an auto mechanic, also in home construction and factory work in the area. He attended Divine Heart Seminary in Donaldson, Northridge High School, Middlebury, and ITT in Fort Wayne. Paul enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting, motorcycles and hydroplane boat racing. He was an avid NASCAR fan, with Dale and Dale Earnhardt Jr. his favorite drivers. He served with the Indiana National Guard for several years.
