ELKHART — Pat "PD", "Poppy" Daugherty, 65, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, peacefully with his family and best friend by his bedside at home. He was the son of the late Benjamin R and Arthetta B (Shoup) Daugherty.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Gordon Daugherty.

He leaves behind two daughters and seven grandchildren, April M. Smith with three sons, Arion, Adam and Preston and Jennifer (Walter IV) Benham with four children, Hilary, Walter V, Ean and Valarie, all of Elkhart; one brother, Benjamin Daugherty of Elkhart; two sisters, Barbara (Lee) Hofferth of Sun City, Ariz., and Judy (Wayne) Sharp of Middlebury; along with 12 nieces and nephews.

Pat served in the U. S. Marine Corp during Vietnam. He was very proud of his service spent in Vietnam and was always thanking all military persons he met along his journey for their service as well.

Pat was employed as a dispatcher most of his life and retired from American Hauler in Elkhart.

He was an avid fisherman and loved being on Lake Michigan fishing or on his pontoon with his family and friends along with his black lab, "Hope," whom he adored. In the fall when college football started he followed the Oklahoma Sooners.

There will be no service at this time but a celebration of his life will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Wildwood Resort and Campground on the north side of Juno Lake in Edwardsburg, Mich.
