ELKHART -- Patricia W. "Pat" Grathen, 81, of Elkhart, died at 9:05 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 28, 2010) at Golden Living Center.
She was born in LaPorte on March 17, 1929. to James and Wilma (Witter) Mahar. She married James B. Grathen in 1947. He died in 1983.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald "Ron," Phil and Steve (Sue) Grathen, all of Elkhart; one brother, Donald Hogue of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Jewel Axsom of Elkhart and Jean Grathen of Edwardsburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Robert, Bill and Harold Mahar and Richard "Dick" Hogue; two sisters, Maggie McCreary and Joan Paulson; and a grandson, Eric Grathen.
A service to celebrate Pat's life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Nathan Breneman of Northside Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Association of Michiana.
