ELKHART - Oveta L. "Veda" Shipman, 81, of Elkhart, IN passed away peacefully at her home amongst family on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Mishawaka, IN on Jan. 19, 1937 to the late Marvin Z. and Rosa Louise (Ford) Hickman. Veda married Junior "Jack" Shipman on June 26, 1965. He precedes her in death, along with sisters Marcella Suglia and Zella Harris and brothers Clemmy Lew, Robert "Ed" and Ronald Hickman.

Surviving Veda are children Debra (Barry) Hoover, Carolyn (Vernon "Bud") Goodwin and Joel (Shelly) Shipman and siblings Jimmy (Phyllis) Hickman and Barbara Reynolds. Veda had four grandchildren: Bradley Hoover, Erin (Randy) Peters, Jacob (Morgan) Shipman and Jason Kiliper.

Veda spent many of her years as an office staff member and in later years, worked in food service at the community college campus in Ft. Dodge, IA. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting local casinos. First and foremost, Veda loved the company of family and friends, often dedicating her time and attention to assisting them!

A memorial service for Veda will be held at 4 pm Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 at Billings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Elkhart, IN with visitation beginning at 2 pm. Interment at South Lawn Cemetery in South Bend will take place at a later date.
