JONES, Mich. — Norman L. "Red" Wurmnest, 86, of Jones, passed away at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, after a brief illness.
He was born in Blue Island, Ill., on May 15, 1926, to the late Henry and Leona (Willis) Wurmnest.
He married Judith A. Walker on Nov. 2, 1962, in Hazel Crest, Ill. She passed away in 2006.
Surviving are his sons, Carlton A. "Carl" (Stacy) Wurmnest of Jones and Harold L. (Kerstin) Wurmnest of Fullerton, Calif.; brothers Eugene (Meril) Wuest of Crete, Ill., and Gordon (Audrey) Wurmnest of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sisters Thelma Hon of Sarasota, Fla., and Ruth Greenhill and June Smiley, both of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
No service or viewing has been planned at this time. In accordance with Red's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Billings Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Red worked nearly all his life as a carpenter and served as a coxswain in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
