ELKHART — Noble J. "Bobo" Hess, 83, of Elkhart, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, peacefully with his family at his side following an extended illness at the Center for Hospice Care.
He was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Goshen, to George and Hazel (Berry) Hess, and went on to marry the love of his life Una "Arlene" Arter on May 2, 1953, in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also surviving are daughters Vickie (James) Markle and Elizabeth Hess, both of Elkhart and Susan (Daniel) Bender of Union, Mich.; brothers George Hess Jr. and Joseph (Judy) Hess, both of Elkhart, Kenneth and Arthur Hess, both of Englewood, Fla., Paul (Jennifer) Hess of Goshen, Michael (Deb) Hess of Stevensville, Mich; sisters Scydell (Robert) Hartman of Elkhart and Kathy (Stephen) Dukes of Rogersville, Tenn.; grandchildren Scott, Holly, Jennifer and Tomi; great grandchildren Paige, Zachary, Austin, Alix, Madeleine, Owen and Peyton; and great-great granddaughter Adalynn.
In addition to his parents, a brother, Robert Hess preceded him in death.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is honored to host Noble's celebration of life services beginning with a visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, with a visitation an hour prior.
The Rev. Steven Reshan of the Augustana Lutheran Church will officiate and, in accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow, with burial at a later date in Prairie Street Cemetery.
Noble retired from Valley Machine Products of Elkhart after 20 years there.
He was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge No. 599, The I.O.O.F. and Esther Rebekah Lodge in Bristol, and Elkhart's Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
In his free time, Bobo enjoyed watching TV, playing golf and listening to Frank Sinatra and spending time with his family.
Memorial donation may be given to the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart or to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
