EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- Nicholas E. Shelt, 20, of Edwardsburg, passed away at 6:36 p.m. Saturday (July 16, 2006) at his residence.

Nicholas was born Feb. 9, 1986, in Elkhart, Ind., to Terry D. and Dorothy J. (Whalen) Shelt. His mother, Dorothy J. Shelt, survives in Edwardsburg, along with one sister, Elizabeth L. (Kris) Seymore of Elkhart; one brother, David M. Shelt of Ocean, N.J.; his grandmother, Mary Whalen of Elkhart; and one nephew, Jake Seymore, who lives at home with Elizabeth and Kris.

Nicholas was preceded in death by his father, Terry D. Shelt; his grandfather, Mac Whalen; and grandparents Ed and Betty Shelt.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where a private family service will take place on Thursday. Pastor Ed Villalba and Pastor Mark Beeson of Granger Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.

Nicholas was a 2004 High Honors graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School, where he participated in football and track. He also attended Indiana University South Bend. Nicholas was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and had many interests including IU basketball, fitness and sports. He enjoyed playing his guitar and listening to music, going to the Soccer Zone, and spending time with his nephew, Jake.

Nicholas also was proud of being a blood donor.
