Obituary
HANNIBAL, Mo. — Nellie L. Martin, 96, of Hannibal and formerly of Grass Valley, Calif., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, while residing at her son's home in Elkhart.
She was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Wing River Township, Minn.
Survivors include two sons, Leonard Paul (Carolyn) Martin of Oroville, Calif., and Rod (Wendy) Martin of Elkhart; one daughter, Frances (Barry) Kerr of Hannibal; eight grandchildren, Michael (Jen) Martin of Elkhart, Randy Martin of San Diego, Michelle Martin of South Bend, Ind., Kyle Schafer of Goshen, Ind., Bradley (Amanda) Kerr of Fulton, Rosemary Kerr of Grass Valley, Dana (Julie) Denney of Chico, Calif., and Nickey Basinger of Vacaville, Calif.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
Nellie moved to Grass Valley from Minnesota during World War II when she met her husband of 63 years, Leonard Martin. She worked as the city clerk of Grass Valley for over 20 years prior to her retirement. She was an active member of United Methodist Church in Grass Valley, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and chaired the pastry bakes for 20 years.
Nellie passed away surrounded by her family.
Cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Services. A celebration of her life will be in Grass Valley in March 2015.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is entrusted with arrangements.
