Nancy M. Rowe, known by most as "Grammy", 85, of Elkhart, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family at Esther's House at the time of her passing.
Born on July 20, 1940 in Gary, Indiana, Nancy was the loving daughter of the late, Harry and Marjorie (Fowler) Weitze, who resided in California.
Nancy was the beloved wife of Jerry Rowe, married on February 14, 1981. The couple resided in Lowell, IN until later moving to Elkhart, IN in 2005, to be near children and grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her current husband of 44 years, Jerry Rowe of Elkhart; brother, Harry Weitze of Prescott Arizona: son, Scott (Marylou) Stevens of Mishawaka; daughter, Melissa (Rob) Bach of Middlebury, IN; stepchildren, Jason (Penny) Rowe and Heather Rowe, both of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Mitchell Stevens, Christian (Emily) Bach, Carter Bach, and step-grandchildren Sabrina Fox, Drake Phillips, Alex Brown and Aubrey Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie and Harry, brother Jack Weitze and former spouse David Stevens, father of their children Scott and Melissa.
Nancy held several jobs growing up, including a telephone operator, Farm Bureau employee and the longest being in human resources with the now Chase Bank in Merrillville, IN. Nancy was an active member of Lowell Methodist Church, putting in many hours in their resale shop and most recently, Hillcrest United Methodist Church in Elkhart, where she was very involved in church luncheons and helped out in the kitchen.
Nancy was an avid reader of all genres, enjoyed word games and crossword puzzles like her mother, and playing Bunco with friends. She had a soft heart for animals and enjoyed nature, especially boating on the lake with her family.
Nancy and her husband traveled extensively to all continents except Antarctica, enjoying 14 cruises with her husband, among other land trips.
Most of all, Grammy enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and spending time with family. She loved attending all of their sporting events, band concerts and after school activities.
Nancy was the heart of the family, she loved family over all else,and never missed an opportunity to tease and joke with closest to her.
Friends may visit with the Grammy’s family from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.
A Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Tracy Rose-Love of Hillcrest United Methodist Church following the visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Center for Hospice Care or Alzheimer’s Association.
