Nancy J. Gard, 75, residing in Elkhart, passed away Monday evening, May 27, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Nancy was born on January 28, 1944 in Elkhart to the late Joseph and Evelyn (Gilbert) Geil. She married her husband of more than 52 years Larry E. Gard on June 18, 1966. Larry survives, as well as two sons, Ty (Sherriann) Gard, Douglas (Hilary) Gard; four loving grandchildren, Joseph Gard, Emiliann Gard, Hayden Gard and Owen Gard; two brothers, Steve (Dorothy) Geil and Kent (Suzanne) Geil survive as well.

Nancy was a 1962 graduate of Elkhart High School. She received her BA in Elementary Education from Manchester College. She went on to teach for 6 years at Mary Feeser Elementary, and was named "Outstanding Young Educator" while there. The school library was dedicated in her name in September of 2017. She left teaching to start a family. Volunteering was something she enjoyed doing for several years at Osolo School and was a tutor for many elementary students. Nancy also helped for many years at her husband's business, Larry Gard Photography.  She also worked at Broderick Chiropractic Center.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 2 to 4 pm at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Friends may also call for 1 hour prior to the 11:00 am Monday June 3, 2019 celebration of life service for Nancy. Rev. Keith McFarren from Bethel UMC will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
