Myrtle was a machine operator for Taylor Products in Elkhart for many years, retiring in the late 1960s. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed canning vegetables. She also was an avid card player and liked rummy, canasta and euchre, as well as playing dominoes and Scrabble. Although she was not a veteran, she spent the early 1940s in California as a "Rosie the Riviter"-style welder for Kaiser Aluminium, a government-sponsored contractor that built ships for the war effort. She was also a former member of the Elkhart Women of the Moose Lodge 599 and enjoyed camping with her family in her free time
