Morrie lived the fullest of lives that could not possibly be summed up in a few short paragraphs. His talents were unending and his love for people had no limit. After high school, he served proudly in the United States Army during World War II as a second lieutenant. After the war he decided to bike-pack through Europe riding his way from Belgium to Italy. He attended Indiana University of Bloomington where he became the first president of the IU Student Foundation. He also served as president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta and continued his education graduating with a Master's in Business. Following college he worked in a variety of business positions including human resources director, real estate agent and FBI agent. He married his beloved wife Barbara Clement on July 17, 1951 in Indianapolis and moved to Natick, MA for his FBI position, where they had their first child, Jeff. Morrie and Barb moved to Columbus, IN and had 3 more wonderful children. They continued raising their family and moved to Elkhart for several years before moving back to Florida in 1976 where he lived for 45 years.
Morrie never met a stranger, making new friends wherever he went. After retiring, he remained social and active traveling often with Barb to see family and friends all over the country whenever possible. They enjoyed spoiling their grandchildren, stocking their Florida timeshare condo on the gulf coast with sugary cereal and board games and making pancakes every morning for the grandkids. Morrie was a sandcastle-building aficionado, bringing all the tools of the trade out to the shore and digging into the sand with the kiddos. He enjoyed singing in a local choir, volunteering, learning new things, exercising, acting in plays and showing off his dance moves whenever the situation fit. The Sunshine Senior Center in St. Petersburg, Florida became a huge part of his life, keeping him active and introducing him to lifelong friends. A few years after Barbara's passing in 2010 he met his girlfriend Sherry while on a bus to attend a lecture series. They quickly became inseparable and he grew to adore her and her 6 wonderful children as his own family.
Morrie was very devout in his love for the Lord Jesus Christ and attended several Methodist churches after moving back to Elkhart in recent months. He finally found the perfect fit at Hillcrest United Methodist Church where he made good friends in a short time.
Although for most, 94 years would be a long life, Morrie had much more he wanted to experience and had aspirations of living to at least 100 years. His passing is heartbreaking to family and friends who will miss him immensely.
