Mildred B. Merritt, 82, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 23, 1937 in Harlan, Kentucky to Lean and Rosa (Owens) Cole.

She married Urcel R. Merritt on June 14, 1997 in Elkhart.

He survives, as well as a daughter Sue (Scott) Phillips, 2 sons, Randy (Pam) Brock, Lee Brock; step-son Keith Merritt, step-daughter Tammy (Michael) Odiorne; along with many grand and great grandchildren;  brother Sam (Debbie) Cole; and her sister Della Mae Brock.

In addition to her parents, 2 brothers, Coburn and Johnny Cole and a granddaughter Stephanie Brock preceded her in death.

Mildred retired from Target, where she worked for many years on the sales floor at the former Pierre Moran Store and also the Goshen Target Store. She was an avid quilter, fantastic cook and enjoyed crocheting and gardening and grew the best tasting strawberries.

Funeral services for Mildred will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery. Please visit the Billings Funeral Home website to share condolences with Mildred's family.
