ELKHART — Mildred L. Clemons, 70, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 5, 1942, in Brickeys, Ark., to Joe and Mattie Lee (Brown) Mannings.
Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Armstrong and Kevin R. Houston, both of Elkhart; stepdaughter Mona Warren of Elkhart; five sisters, Mattie (Henry) Spearmon of Elkhart, Lela Washington of Elkhart, Mary Louise Nathan of Hawthorne, Calif., Karie (William) Davis of Marianna, Ark., and Jewel Jackson of Gary; five brothers, James (Mary) Miller of South Haven, Miss., the Rev. Arthur (Dorothy) Mannings, Robert Mannings, Bobby Mannings and the Rev. John (Pearl) Mannings, all of Detroit; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Clemons; two brothers, Eldrige Miller and Joe Mannings Jr.; and a sister, Lemuel T. Jackson.
Mildred worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years.
She was a loving homemaker for nearly 50 years.
She was a member of New Psalmist Church in South Bend.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, homegoing service celebration at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 802 W. Garfield Ave., Elkhart. The Rev. Gregory McKeel will officiate.
Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
