Michael Stephen Smead, 69, of Elkhart, went home to the arms of Jesus, his Savior, on Thursday evening, November 11, 2021. He peacefully departed this life, in his residence, surrounded by the love of his family. A native of Elkhart, Michael was born on March 13, 1952, to the late Francis Smead and Aletha "Erma" (Martin) Roberts. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather Fred Roberts, brother James E. Smead and sister Sylvia C. Alg.

He married his true love Diana E. (Golden) on May 20, 1978, in Elkhart.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Diana E. Smead; son Robert (Andi) Smead; daughter Heather (Eddie) Hoelyfield; grandson Collin Smead; also surviving is a brother, Donald (Patricia) Smead; step-brother Michael (LaDawna) Roberts; sister-in-law, Melissa (Charles) Darling and sister-in-law, Abbe G. Golden.

Michael worked for Patrick Industries as a truck driver for 12 years, retiring in 2021. He enjoyed golf, fishing and traveling with Diana, most of all, Michael's family was the center of his life.

A visitation will be held in Michael's honor, from 2 to 4, on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. to laugh, remember and share memories of Michael with his family.

Masks are kindly requested to be worn during the visitation.
