BRISTOL — Michael G. "Mike" Fitch Sr., 59, of Bristol, passed away at 11:32 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at his home after an apparent heart attack.
He was born Jan. 15, 1953, in Elkhart to George and Marjory (Miller) Fitch, and later married Mary Ann D. Blosser on Aug. 4, 1984, in Bristol. She survives at home.
Also surviving are his sons, Michael Jr. of Bristol, Scott L. (Sherry Johnson) Fitch of Cabin Creek, W.Va., Nihl L. (Jackie) Jonker of White Pigeon, Mich., Ben J. Jonker of Elkhart and Tom W. Jonker of Leesburg, Fla.; his daughter Krista L. Fitch of Bristol; brothers John (Jeannie) Fitch of Bristol and Kevin Fitch of Lancaster, Pa.; his father, George Fitch of Odessa, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a grandson, Benji.
Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, and a graveside service is at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 29, 2012, at Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol. Military Graveside Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV Post 19 of Elkhart.
Mike was an over-the-road truck driver for several Michiana area trucking companies over a span of 30 years. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and enjoyed fishing, golfing, going to the casinos and attending family cookouts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Columbus, a Baltimore Class heavy cruiser.
