Obituary

ELKHART — Michael J. Dunn, 73, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, July 16, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 30, 1941, in Pueblo, Colo., to the late John J. and Emma (Gilroth) Dunn.

Surviving are his sons, Christopher M. Dunn of Elkhart and Joshua Dunn of Wakarusa; four grandchildren, Tanner and Taylor Dunn, Michael Rolf and Alyssa Shaffer; and a sister, Patricia Rhoades of Wakarusa.

Michael proudly served in the U.S. Air Force with 16 years total service: four were active duty during the Vietnam War, from 1967 to 1971. He received several medals and awards for his service including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He worked in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning during his service in the Air Force and after his discharge. He formerly worked for Cook Heating and Air Conditioning and Rohan Heating and Air Conditioning.

He enjoyed fishing and boating in his spare time.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Graveside services, with military honors by the U.S Air Force Honor Guard and DAV Chapter 19, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, in Prairie Street Cemetery Veterans Towers. Pastor Ed Goleski will also officiate.
