Obituary

Michael James Baker, 72, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the presence of his wife, Sandy.

Michael was born on March 17, 1954, in New Paris, Indiana, to James Leroy Coy and Nancy Baker. He married the love of his life, Sandy Lou Tirschek-Baker, on August 11, 1984, at Trinity on Jackson Church.

Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy Tirschek-Baker; son, Chris (Jessica) Tirschek-Baker; sister, Jodi McClain; grandson, Jacob Baker; and beloved dog, Charley, and cat, Thumper. He is also survived by the many customers and friends he made throughout the Elkhart community.

Mike graduated from Goshen High School and soon afterward served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He and Sandy were members of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mike was also a member of Kane Lodge No. 183, Free and Accepted Masons.

Mike owned and operated Michael Warrens Studio on Second Street in Elkhart, where he worked as a hairstylist. Throughout the years, he supported numerous local businesses and business associations. Through his work, Mike built lasting friendships and developed meaningful relationships with generations of customers.

Mike was always willing to lend an ear, help others, and offer support whenever it was needed. He had a servant’s heart and genuinely cared about the people around him.

Above all, Mike cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. His love for his family and the connections he made throughout his life will be remembered by all who knew him.

As Mike would often say, “Oh, I’ve got it.”

At the family’s request, no services will be held at this time. The family kindly asks that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.
