Melvin E. Thimlar, 97, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Esther's House in Elkhart, IN. He was born in Albion, IN on July 2, 1928, to the late Cletus and Marie (Jackson) Thimlar.

Melvin is also preceded in death by his wife, Claire (Wegznowski)Thimlar; brothers, Theodore, Frank, Donald, Robert, R.D., and Lee Thimlar; sisters, June Springer, Jane Hamilton, and Barbara Garvin; and one grandchild. He is survived by his children, James (Susan) Thimlar, Daniel Thimlar, Thomas Thimlar, Kris White, and Lisa (Robert) McPherson; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will take place at Violett Cemetery in Goshen, IN. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart has been assisting the family with services.

Melvin served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was a hardworking man who worked on the Railroad for many years before retiring. Melvin never sat still for very long; he said that was the secret for living a long life. He enjoyed working on his farm where he raised Black Angus and grew a large garden. In his spare time, he would hunt and fish. Melvin will be dearly missed by his loving family.
