ELKHART — Maynard Lawrence "Red" McClintic, 88, of Elkhart, passed away early Thursday morning, July 11, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital after an apparent heart attack.

Red was born in Elkhart to the late Oliver O. and Della M. (Denoyer) McClintic.

In addition to his parents, sisters Irene Chaffee and Helen Rice preceded him in death.

He married Mary J. Mortorff on April 2, 1948, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

She survives after 65 years of marriage, along with their children, Brian (Ladymar) McClintic of Norfolk, Va., Alicia (Ronald) Maure, Mark McClintic and Michael (Kim) McClintic, all of Elkhart; six grandchildren, Mardy (Heather) McClintic, Jennifer (Matt) Liamero, Ben (Michelle) McClintic, Matt McClintic and Kera and Megan Maure; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene (Windy) Grass of Rochester.

Red retired in 1988 as the printing department foreman at Federal Paperboard after 43 years of service. He was a 1943 graduate of Elkhart High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. (Air Force) during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Elkhart DAV Chapter 19, Bristol American Legion Post 143 and the Elkhart Knights of Columbus Council 1043. In his spare time, Red enjoyed woodworking, flying, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol. The Rev. Robert "Bob" VanKempen will officiate. Military honors will be rendered at the church. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow the Mass.

Burial will be at a future date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County or American Diabetes Association.
