He was born April 22, 1943, in Elkhart to Max W. and Bernadine (Longacre) Wienhoft.
He is survived by his companion, Gale Rhinesmith of Elkhart; one son, Max W. (Kathy) Wienhoft of Elkhart; one daughter, Laura (Charles) Fletcher of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Mikel (Phyllis) Wienhoft of Elkhart; one sister, Barbara Murray of Goshen; and his best bud, Larry Heckman of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Bernadine.
No visitation or services have been scheduled. At his request, he is to be cremated with the burial of his ashes to take place in the veterans section of Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wienhoft was a former police officer with the Elkhart Police Department and retired as a K-9 detective captain with the Bristol Police Department. He was also the former owner of Tri-State Protection Co. in Elkhart and was a former member of the FOP. He enjoyed antiques, Indian artifacts and especially his K-9 friends.
Mr. Wienhoft was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War from June 1960 until his honorable discharge in June 1963. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1966.
