Max C. Lapham, 89, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his home.
Max was born on March 23, 1933 in Camden, MI to Charles Francis and Jessie (Ansbaugh) Lapham. He married the love of his life, Gwendolyn (Parcell) Lapham on Nov. 27, 1955 in Elkhart, IN. Gwen passed away in 2008.
Max is also preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Norman Lapham.
Max is survived by his children, Debra (Kevon) Alwine of Elkhart, Thomas (Shannon) Lapham of White Pigeon, MI, and Lorinda Perry of Florida; grandchildren, Lindsey, Monica (Kyle), Amber (Cole), Joshua (Chanda), Kayla (Trenton), Brianna (Ryan), Zachary, Hannah and Dustin (Donna); multiple great grandchildren and one on the way.
Max honorably served his country first in the Merchant Marines followed by the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He worked in various local businesses including Elkhart Railroad, CG Conn and St. Mary's Convent. After retirement, Max worked part time at Car Quest.
In his early years, Max and Gwen enjoyed travelling.
Max was an avid NASCAR and Indianapolis Colts fan. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing in Minnesota. Max was a skilled skeet shooter. Max also collected coins in his spare time.
Max was easy going and a hard worker.
Family was everything and Max attended most of his grandchildren's sporting events.
Per Max's wishes, Max will be cremated.
Full military honors will be rendered for Max and a graveside service for both Max and Gwen will be at 11:00 am, Friday, July 21, 2023 at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
