LINCOLN, Vt. — Matthew David Dibley, 30, born Feb. 25, 1986, passed Saturday, July 9, from injuries sustained in a hiking accident in Lincoln.

He attended St. Thomas the Apostle School, Marian High School and the Community College of Vermont. He received an associate degree in environmental studies.
He is survived by his mother, Susie Peters (Dick); his father, Mike Dibley Jr.; his siblings, Michael B. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Sophia, Samuel, Magnolia, and Atlas as well as a large, loving Dibley-Lucchese family.
From day one, Matthew was a true outdoorsman. Growing up in Bristol, he spent his childhood in the woods. He and his family went up to their cabin in Canada each summer where the love for the outdoors was furthered fostered. He loved to fish with his father and brothers, hike, and explore. He was a natural athlete who was an asset to every team he joined. He was a comedian who did to know it, and brought joy to people by making them laugh. He had a great respect for nature. His favorite book was Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, and he embodied the central message of self-actualisation and self-reliance. Matthew made friends wherever he went. He was well-travelled, well-informed and always present. He enjoyed great food, homemade wine, craft beer, and foraging for wild plants. In a way, he was a modern day Euell Gibbons, living the last years of his life in Lincoln in a cabin in the field and woods which was off-grid, overlooking a beautiful view of Mount Abraham. He truly was connected to Source.
