ELKHART -- Matthew J. Basden, 56, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 17, 1953, in Alton, Ill.

On June 7, 2003, he married Kathleen E. (Templeton) Decker-Basden in Elkhart and she survives along with daughters Jennifer Dick of Ludowici, Ga., and Rebecca Basden of Nashville, Tenn.; sons Anthony (Nicara) Basden and Benjamin (Holly) Basden, both of Vadnais Heights, Minn., Haas Decker, Josef Basden and Nicodemus Basden, all of Elkhart; two sisters, Evelyn (Lee) Kirkpatrick and Sydney Jansen, both of Tampa, Fla.; and one granddaughter.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked at Summit Fiberglass as a truck driver and was a member of Radiant Life Assembly of God Church.

Friends may call two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Pastor John Utley will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered .
