Obituary

Feb. 23, 1927 - Oct. 21, 2013

NILES, Mich. — MaryAnn (Marko) Lipinski, 86, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at 12:30 a.m. of natural causes.

MaryAnn was born Feb. 23, 1927, in South Bend, Ind., to Marcella (Raszipovics) Marko and Peter J. Marko Sr.

Her older brothers, Joseph and Peter J. Jr. Marko, and older sister, Marcella A. (Marko) Eberhart, preceded her in death.

MaryAnn was married to Victor M. Lipinski on May 25, 1946, at Our Lady of Hungary Church. They have three children and were married for 57 ½ years before Victor's death on Dec. 19, 2003. MaryAnn's son-in-law, Randy Ringenberg, passed away in July of 2003.

MaryAnn is survived by her children, Vicky (Paul) Szajko of Niles, Pat Ringenberg of Niles and John Lipinski of Mishawaka, Ind.; her grandchildren, Bryan (Miranda) Szajko, Eric (Michelle) Szajko and Krista Lipinski; her stepbrothers and sister, Chris, Doug, Corey and Alicia Cox; and her great-grandchildren, Zach, Alex, Cadence and Ethan, all of whom were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

MaryAnn attended Our Lady of Hungary School. She had to leave school in the eighth grade to help support her family. She grew up in South Bend and was proud of her Hungarian heritage. She was also proud of her older brothers, Joseph, who had his own "big band" orchestra and played with several great bands — MaryAnn enjoyed going to see him play at the Palais Royale — and Peter, who played in his brother's orchestra, played football for Notre Dame and SMU, and was a South Bend police officer.

MaryAnn enjoyed dancing, quilting, crocheting, sewing and baking. Her working career started at Robertson's Department Store. Subsequently she worked in the cafeteria at Elsie Rogers School (while Vicky and Pat were in attendance), the South Bend Toy Co., the Ball Band plant in Mishawaka and at DuMore's — building office furniture. Later, Vic and MaryAnn owned VicMar Kennels and the Yesterday Shop — an antique business. They enjoyed antiquing, auctions, and estate and garage sales. MaryAnn also owned Cakes Unlimited with her daughter, Vicky. MaryAnn was a self-taught cake decorator and enjoyed making cakes and candies for birthdays, weddings and holidays. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

A celebration of MaryAnn's life will be at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, with visitation for one hour prior. Father John Eze of Queen of Peace Parish will officiate. Graveside services will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola immediately following the funeral service.

The family expresses special thanks to Lauren and Amanda from Hospice at Home for their loving care and attention to MaryAnn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice at Home, 4017 Chamberlain Road, Buchanan, MI 49107.

Friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon to celebrate MaryAnn's life at Samuel Mancino's, 4304 Lincolnway E., Mishawaka, after the graveside service.
