Mary Jane Turpin, 93, of Elkhart, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Mary Jane was born in Elkhart on July 26, 1927 to the late Martin W. Schultz and Dorothy (Moore) Schultz. She was married to the late John Turpin on Jan. 19, 1946.

Mary Jane is preceded in death by her husband, John S. Turpin in 1996; son John S. Turpin, Jr in 1974 and sister, Elizabeth Betts/Betty Pontius.

Mary Jane is survived by her children, Jean L. Berkey, William (Janice) Turpin, Nancy Turpin and Sue (Ron) Taylor; brothers, Martin (Helen) and John (Teresa) Schultz; 8 grandchildren, Lori (David Slone) Turpin, Greg (LeAnn) Turpin, Bill (Kim LaVallee) Turpin, Jr., Michelle (L.J.) White, Alan (Vikki) Turpin, David (Karen) Krohn, Jodi (Chris) McKee and Tim (Victoria) Taylor; 19 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; and very special nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane attended Elkhart High School. She worked part time at Sears, Cooks and Clarkes. Mostly, Mary Jane was the matriarch of the family. She loved her family more than anything including the many holiday get togethers in which she never missed a Christmas or giving gifts. She was a fanatic Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed crocheting, painting and crafting in her spare time. Mary Jane had a great sense of humor and was fierce in her beliefs.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mary Jane will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Billings Funeral Home, 812 S. Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor William Turpin, Jr. officiating. A visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
