ELKHART -- M. Virginia Thompson, 84, of Elkhart, formerly of South Bend, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 18, 2008) in Valley View Healthcare Center.
She was born July 10, 1924, in Elkhart to David and Mary (Sample) Hosler. On Nov. 21, 1947, she married Donald Thompson. He died in July 1992 in South Bend.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sons, Phillip "Phil" (Edna) Thompson of Ipswich, Mass., and Mark D. (Joyce) Thompson of Palmdale, Calif.; one grandson; two brothers, David Hosler and Marlin (Marie) Hosler, both of Elkhart; and one sister, Delores Hudson of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by one son, David Carlson.
Mrs. Thompson was a bookkeeper for many years at G.L. Perry's variety store, South Bend, and had worked at Ziker Cleaners, South Bend. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards with her lady friends.
Mrs. Thompson was always jolly, was known for helping people less fortunate and believed in honesty.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Marjorie Mason Braden, spiritual care counselor at The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, will officiate. Burial with graveside service will follow at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.
