She was born on Dec. 29, 1922, in Elkhart to John R. and Anna Mary (Leatherman) Myers. She married Kenneth R. Shinn on May 24, 1947, in Elkhart.
He survives along with one son, Lyle R. (Sharon) Shinn of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Matthew C. (Lori) Stoll of Branson, Mo., Jennifer D. (Tim) Jankowski of Mundelein, Ill., and Jamie E. Shinn of Elkhart; one brother, Lowell (Maxine) Myers of Texas; and one sister, Miriam Friend of Elkhart.
Mrs. Shinn was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Ann Prickett.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Michigan St., Elkhart. The service will be at the church at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Richard Kistler, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Military honors will be rendered at the church by the U.S. Navy Honors Detail. At Mrs. Shinn's request, cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date in the Veteran Towers in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Shinn worked as a ward secretary at Elkhart General Hospital from 1968 until she retired in 1984. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir. She also served with the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Shinn was a Storekeeper First Class in Hawaii during World War II with the U.S. Navy from June 1944 until her honorable discharge in August 1946. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and sharing her love of nature with them. She and Kenneth also enjoyed RV traveling.
