ELKHART — Mary E. McCarty, 77, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at 2:35 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Woodland Manor Nursing Facility in Elkhart.

She was born in Elkhart on July 4, 1938, to the late Merle and Bertha (Decker) Stouder.

She later married David G. "Mac" McCarty on March 21, 1959, in Elkhart. He survives at home.

Also surviving are her children, David (Hope) McCarty and Kathy (Charles Grimes) McCarty, both of Elkhart; grandchildren Steven and Krystal McCarty; and great-grandson Jacob Prieto.

She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation is to take place. No services have been scheduled.

Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with arrangements.

Mary was a bus driver for the Elkhart Community School Corp. for many years. She was a life-time member of Elkhart DAV 19 Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling, taking care of her family and spending time outdoors fishing with Mac.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
