ELKHART -- Mary Catherine Hostetler, 85, of 1400 W. Franklin St., AmeriCare Living Center, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 10, 2006) in Elkhart General Hospital, after a battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 14, 1920, in LaGrange County, to Claude and Bertha (Wilson) Cornelius. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia (David) Lough of Bristol and Lorayne Howard of Tipp City, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Burton L. "Burt" Hostetler; a granddaughter, Kristen Howard; and four sisters, Mildred Louthan, Helen Huff, Martha Hansen and Pauline Schwab.

Friends may call two hours prior to the 1 p.m. Monday funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Associate Pastor Brian Cray of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.

Ms. Hostetler was a 1938 Wolcottville High School graduate. She was employed at CTS in Elkhart for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of UAW Local 941 and the Friendly Pioneers, and was a lifetime member of the Simpson United Methodist Church and then Faith United Methodist Church.

Ms. Hostetler enjoyed spending time with and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader of biographies and non-fiction as well as an accomplished traveler, having been to Europe several times, but preferring family trips to Vermont the most.
