March 14, 1918 - May 6, 2012

ELKHART — Mary Helen Jones, 94, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born March 14, 1918, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to Edward and Melita (Zelmer) Schmaltz. On July 5, 1952, she married Carl L. Jones in Angola. He passed away Jan. 27, 2010.

Survivors include a brother, Arthur Schmaltz of Niles, Mich.; sister Dorothy Friebele of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rudolph Schmaltz, and a sister, Ruth Sellers.

Mary was employed at Uniroyal Tires in Mishawaka for more than 36 years prior to her retirement in 1977. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 25 years to the little ones with loving devotion. She served as secretary for the Ladies Missionary Society. Church members and all who knew her recognized her big heart and love for others. She was known by everyone as Aunt Mary.

Mary enjoyed fishing, working in her flower garden, eating out and especially spending time with loved ones. She loved her favorite color, pink.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Grace Baptist Church, 53980 C.R. 17, Bristol, IN 46507. Pastor Michael Quirey will officiate. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery.
