ELKHART — Mary R. Grant, 72, of Elkhart, passed away following an extended illness at 11:05 a.m. at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Friday, Sept. 18.
She was born in Findlay, Ohio, on Sept. 14, 1943, to the late Clarence "Casey" and Alice (Bemistepher) Whitcomb.
She later married Richard "Rich" Grant in 1965. He survives her at home.
Also surviving are her children, Christopher Grant and Therese (Rex Cook) Kauffman; grandchildren Brandon (Leslie Hopper) Grant, Nicholas (Lacey) Grant, William (Sabrina) Doolittle and Miranda (Shane Hardesty) Doolittle; and great-grandchildren Justice, Dayowna and Carson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Grant; three sisters; and a brother.
In accordance with the family's wishes, no services have been scheduled and cremation is to take place.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary spent several years in area woodworking shops, and also worked in the bakery and inn at Das Dutchman Essenhaus in Middlebury. She was an avid Colts, Notre Dame and NASCAR fan. She enjoyed shopping in Shipshewana, spending time with her family and working in her flower garden.
Memorial donations can be given to the Hospice Foundation or to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
