ELKHART -- Mary Jane DeJong, 75, of Elkhart, passed away after an extended illness at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Valley View Healthcare Facility in Elkhart.
She was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Elkhart, to the late Jesse B. and Pearl L. (Smith) Rush. She married Nico H. DeJong on May 31, 1958, in West Lafayette. He survives in a retirement home in Waterloo, Iowa.
Also surviving is a son, John D. DeJong of Kennewick, Wash.; two brothers, Hugh and Alvin Rush, both of Elkhart; and nephew James P. (Carolyn) Goddard of Elkhart.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Milton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday with visitation one hour prior at Grace Bible Church, 54230 C.R. 5, Elkhart, with Pastor Mike Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
Mary Jane was a homemaker and a home health care nurse. She was also a 1957 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in child development.
Memorials may go to Grace Bible Church.
