ELKHART — Mary R. Decker, 97, of Elkhart, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1915, in Elkhart to Robert and Rachel (Osterhouse) Harper. She married O. Carlyle Decker on June 13, 1938, in Elkhart. He died in 1983.
Surviving is a son, Robert O. Decker of Elkhart; a sister, Phyllis Harper of San Diego; and a niece, Julie Nixon of San Diego.
Mary worked as a secretary for 26 years for Elkhart Community School Corporation. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart and was a member IOOF Rebekah's and past state president of the Rebekah Assembly of Indiana.
At her request, cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Services under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home.
A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart. She will be laid to rest with her husband O. Carlyle at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at the Peace Mausoleum at Rice Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the church choir fund.
