ELKHART -- Mary R. Baron, 84, residing in Elkhart, passed away Thursday morning (Oct. 14, 2010 ) in Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1925, in Elkhart to the late Dominic and Carmela (Faressa) Adamo. She married Norman Harold Baron in 1951 in Dover, Del. Norman died on Nov. 7, 1964, in Canada while serving with the U.S Air Force.
Surviving are her daughter Rita (Donald) Baron-Sekora of Elkhart; granddaughter Tana (Sgt. Austin) Groves, Beaufort, S.C.; and one great-granddaughter, Alyse Groves. Sisters Connie (Larry) Abel of Elkhart and Florence (Andrew) Krizman of South Bend survive as well.
Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret G. Adamo, Ann Bowers and Christina Sikorski; and one brother, Anthony Adamo.
Please join with her family from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., where a vigil service will be prayed starting at 4:30 p.m.
Friends may also call one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Monday funeral service at the funeral home. The Rev. William Sullivan from St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church will officiate, with graveside services and burial to follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.
Mary was a homemaker and retired after many years working in retail sales at several area stores, including J.C. Penney and Carson-Pirie-Scott and Co. She was a 1944 graduate of Elkhart High School and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and, at one time, the Rosary Society.
Mary was a former member of the DAV Chapter 19 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and loved animals, especially her cats.
