Obituary

ELKHART — Mary J. "Jean" Barnes, 75, of Elkhart, passed away from natural causes at Riverside Village in Elkhart at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

She was born in Elkhart on Sept. 29, 1939, to the late George E. and Florence (Hayes) Main.

She later married James R. Barnes in 1983 in Elkhart. He preceded her in death as well as a sister, Ruth Goble, and a brother, George C. Main.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Ann (Gary) Wood of Kimmell; stepdaughters Cynthia (Mark) Padgett of Goshen, Debora Kriegbaum and Michelle Weaver, both of Elkhart, and Theresa (Mark) Watkins of New Carlisle; her brother, the Rev. Carl (Joyce) Main of Sun City, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jean's life will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 16, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. Visitation will be for an hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral officiated by her brother, the Rev. Carl Main. Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.

Jean was a homemaker who enjoyed caring for the elderly whenever she could. She was a loving mother and grandmother who liked spending time with her family.
