Obituary

Marvin James "Jim" Chew, 79 of Three Rivers, Michigan, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Ascension Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI. Jim as he was known to his family and friends was born on June 24, 1945 in South Bend, IN to the late Charles L. Chew Sr. and Wilma E. (Johnson) Chew. Surviving is a son Timothy (Sabrina) Hanson; two grandchildren Garret (Ellie) Hanson, Hayley (Bailey Nipper) Hanson; sister Barbara J. (Garold) Dull, sisters-in-laws Arlene Chew and Beth Chew.

In addition to his parents, three brothers Charles L. "Chuck" Chew Jr., John E. Chew, Robert G. "Bob" Chew; sister Marcine Chew, sister -in-law Judy Chew and a nephew Edward Chew preceded him in death.

Jim worked for a time as a cabinet installer in the R.V. Industry and also worked as a stocker and in the Garden Center at Meijer Store in Three Rivers. Jim was very patriot; he served in United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to his honorable discharge in 1969. He then went on to serve in the Army National Guard for 17 years, totaling 20 years of service to his country. Family was especially important to Jim, and he enjoyed family functions and get togethers. He enjoyed woodworking, watching TV, especially Disney movies. Memorial Day was particularly important to Jim, and he would visit several cemeteries in the area to honor his family and other fallen comrades.

In honoring Jim wishes, cremation was chosen under the care of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. The burial will be at a later date this coming summer at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan.
