November 21, 1939 – January 23, 2024
ELKHART: Marlene Kay Phenis, 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024 at Elkhart General Hospital, surrounded by love and her family. Marlene was born on November 21, 1939 in Goshen to the late Oscar R. and Harriet Emily (Freer) Tyson. She married Carl Andrew Phenis on April 28, 1991 in Goshen, Carl passed away October 21, 2011.
Surviving are her loving children; Cynthia Rae (Eric) Antisdel, Ronald (Jacquelyn) Windbigler, Edward (Anita) Windbigler, Robin K. (Jeff) Wade, Christine H. Kriel; a brother Richard (Jan) Tyson and two sisters Bonnie (Roy) Stinson and Marjorie (Bruce) Rider; 15 loving grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, with 2 on the way. In addition to her parents and husband, 8 brothers, 1 sister, 3 grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, preceded her in death.
Marlene was a loving wife, mother, and "Nana" to her large family. She was a woman of great faith and a cancer survivor. She has recently been attending Riverview General Baptist Church. Most of all, Marlene's family was the center of her life. Marlene lived life fully and gratefully, she enjoyed garage sales, cooking, singing, and dancing. She loved anything to do with Paris and the Eiffel Tower, of which she had a collection of many and she enjoyed making her family laugh when she would call them with popsicle stick jokes.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Billings Funeral Home, with the service to follow at 1:00 pm. Pastor Rick Pirtle will officiate.
