Obituary

Mr. Mark D. Clere, Sr., 66, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 1:40 am at the Raclin House Hospice Center in Mishawaka. He had been battling health complications for some time.

He was born in Charleston, West Virginia on November 12, 1955 to the late Tice and Irene (Campbell) Clere, and later married Kimberly D. "Kim" Gunnoe on October 16, 1982 in West Virginia. She survives him at home.

Also surviving is his son, Mark D. (Elizabeth) Clere, Jr., and his daughter, Ashley L. Pendleton, both of Elkhart, grandchildren Alli, Taylor, Jaymie and Degan Clere, Chaiston Neterer, Michael Curtis, Jr., Braiydin Pendleton and Christopher, Gracin, Gaige and Jaxon Yoder, and great grandchildren Maverick Hartman and Willow Clere. He is also survived by a whole host of nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends. A brother, Darius Clere and sisters Margie Iverson, Nancy "Louise" Koehlke and Mary Hensley precede Mark in death.

Services for Mark will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Elkhart beginning with a visitation from 11 – 1 pm and followed by a service there at 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Tony Brinson of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Goshen. Burial will follow services at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.

Mark was a laborer the majority of his life and wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He had been working at Kampco Steel in Elkhart as a shear operator for the good part of a decade, but he had been fighting a disability for the past 15 years which cost him an early retirement.  He loved to hunt and fish in his earlier years, but as time went on, Mark adjusted into doing other things. He enjoyed wrenching on old cars and building scale models of them as well. He was also a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan, loved to paint, and collected money from different eras as well as cards. Additionally, he was quite an accomplished guitar player.

He also had a huge heart, and from his family all the way down to his special canine friends Lilly and Calli, Mark had a soft spot for those whom he loved dearly. He was awfully proud of his little family and would do just about anything to make them happy.

Memorial donations may be given to the charity of one's choice. Friends and relatives are encouraged to read the obit and leave condolences, memories and/or pictures of Mark by clicking "Tribute Wall" on his obituary page on the funeral home's website and then following the prompts.
