Marietta Wilkerson, “Mimi,” 96, of Elkhart, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Hubbard Hill Estates Retirement Home. She was born on March 13, 1930, in Seymour, IN to the late John and Esther Marie (Lahne) Peters.

Marietta is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald “Don” Wilkerson; brother, Robert Peters; and sisters, Kay Skinner, Lorraine Stanfield, Dorothy Delaney, Stella Kovenor, and Alice Buchanan. She is survived by her children, David (Denise) Wilkerson of Bristol, IN, Greg (Eileen) Wilkerson of Elkhart, IN, Mark (Elizabeth) Wilkerson of Las Vegas, NV, Robin (Byron) Copeland of Crowley, TX, and Tamie (Rocky Anderson) Wilkerson of Goshen, IN; grandchildren, Anna, Clay, Sarah (Lane) Perry, and Cole; great grandchildren, Celine, Julia, and Walter.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 30888 County Road 6, Elkhart, IN 46514. Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Spencer Mielke officiating. Burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery will follow services. Memorial donations may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Marietta was a woman who demonstrated class, love, patience, gentleness, kindness, and happiness. Her smile was iconic and she radiated joy even when times were tough, she always had that twinkle in her eye. Marietta worked briefly for Elkhart Community Schools before working for NIPSCO for over 31 years until her retirement. She was a hard worker and rarely ever took time off due to illness.

Trinity Lutheran Church was a big part of her life, and she was one of the original Braille books and bag ladies where she volunteered most of her time. Marietta was also a member of the Owls Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed planting flowers in her garden, especially Gerber daisies; reading; and cooking for her family where she made her famous hot chicken salad for gatherings.

Marietta will be dearly missed by her loving family and her many friends.
