ELKHART — Marie L. Mishler, 93, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Elkhart Hospice House.
She was born April 7, 1918, in Fonda, Iowa, to Arthur and Pearl (Limberg) Johnson. On June 12, 1947, she married Lonnie E. Mishler in Plover, Iowa.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Teeters of Elkhart; daughter-in-law Linda Mishler of Elkhart; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Mishler; three brothers, Harold, Meryl and Harold (infant) Johnson; and three sisters-in-law.
Marie attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, and later received a bachelor's degree in education from Bethel College and a master's degree from IUSB in education. Prior to her retirement in 1982, Marie worked as a teacher with Elkhart Community Schools for more than 30 years.
Marie and Lonnie enjoyed traveling and camping together. She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie received many awards during her life including 4-H Leader of the Year in 1991, the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association Homemaker of the Year in 1999 and Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America in 1972.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Esther Circle, Sigma Delta Pi Sorority, NEA Indiana State Teacher's Association, Retired Teachers, and Chatter Belles Extension Club and was a past president of the Married Women's Club.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., from 6 to 8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2715 East Jackson Blvd. Pastor Mark L. Dicken will officiate. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery.
