ELKHART -- Marguerite "Rita" Hawkins, 63, of C.R. 22, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday (March 6, 2007) in Elkhart General Hospital, after a battle with breast cancer.

She was born Nov. 6, 1943, in Providence, R.I., to Robert M. and Eugenie (Cartier) Dwyer. She married Paul Hawkins. They later divorced.

She is survived by her church family at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mishawaka and her caregivers, David and Connie Ritchie of Goshen.

She was preceded in death by her companion of 15 years, Kelby K. Mansfield, who died Jan. 25, 2007. She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Friday Requiem Mass at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 616 Lincolnway E., Mishawaka. The Revs. David Ottsen and George Minnix will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow in Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hawkins formerly worked at the Elkhart County Courthouse and was a waitress for several area restaurants. She retired from M-3 and Associates in Elkhart and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mishawaka, where she played the organ for many years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, plants and working in her yard. She also enjoyed animals, particularly her cat.
